The Isles Yacht Club (IYC) Charity Cup is a series of exciting activities and events designed to raise money to support charitable organizations in our local community. These events elicit the largest participation of our 900 members each year. Since 2003, IYC members have raised and donated over $750,000 for charity. Proceeds from this year's fundraising events will benefit the following three charities: St. Vincent de Paul, Backpack Kidz, and New Operation Cooper Street(YMCA). The organizations will each receive 1/3 of the total funds raised and/or donated during the 2022/23 fundraising season.
Let's Make a Difference Together!
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul ~ begun in 1963, as an international Catholic lay organization organized exclusively for charitable, religious and educational purposes, offering person-to-person service to people in need. The Punta Gorda location currently serves over 5,000 individuals in Charlotte County, providing food, clothing and financial assistance, including education and emergency assistance, programs of change and self-support, and home repair for struggling owners.
Backpack Kidz ~ In Charlotte County, thousands of children go without food on the weekends during the school year. Backpack Kidz works to “fight childhood hunger, one backpack at a time." Since 2010, volunteers have filled and delivered to local Punta Gorda schools over 1500 backpacks per week with food items to sustain some of our community’s neediest children from Friday afternoon until they return to school on Monday. Our support will help meet their goal to increase the number to over 2000 backpacks per week in 2022/23.
New Operation Cooper Street ~ The recent pandemic created major setbacks for many local children's educational needs. Many of the same students, served by Backpack Kidz during the school year, need continued nutritional support during the summer months. The YMCA, in a recently created partnership with existing, New Operation Cooper Street, Punta Gorda, will provide educational programs designed to bring the children back to their targeted reading and math levels, to help them continue to thrive in school. The after-school and summer programs also provide social enrichment and life skills, and provide healthy nutrition daily. This support is vital to our community’s most vulnerable children by providing them the opportunity to grow and thrive through healthy bodies and healthy minds.

The 2022/23 IYC Charity Cup, hosted by Isles Yacht Club (IYC), through a set of competitive and social events, raises funds to support local community needs. Through partnership with Charlotte Community Foundation, IYC members, the public and local sponsors raise funds to support some of the most vulnerable in our local community. The proceeds of the 2022/23 IYC Charity Cup will be shared equally by these local organizations: St. Vincent de Paul Society, Back Pack Kidz, and YMCA/New Operation Cooper Street.
Since 2003, IYC has raised and donated $750,000 to worthy causes. Last year, we raised $155,000. This year’s IYC Charity Cup Series, ranging from tennis, golf and billiards tournaments to table games, and a poker run, to name just a few, kicks off on October 22, 2022 with a Social and Club Fair. The fundraising season will culminate on March 25, 2023, with a Sailing Regatta and BBQ Bash with Live and Silent Auctions.
