Guardian Ad Litem

"VOICES FOR KIDS"

The Isle-ettes sponsor the Charlotte County Guardian Ad Litem program on a monthly basis throughout the watch. We pledge a given amount each watch to give to this program to assist with birthday parties for a child who is in foster care. These children have been taken away from their families for various reasons and live with foster families. This program assures a party for the child's birthday. It gives the foster parent money to purchase items for a party including a cake, ice cream, favors and a present.

The program Isle-ettes support is called "Voices for Kids". We are happy that we could assist with making a child's special day a happier one for them.

Relay For Life

March 15 and 16, 2008

Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society's signature event, is a fun-filled overnight experience designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer. At Relay, people from within the community gather to celebrate survivors, remember those lost to cancer, and to fight back against this disease. Relay participants help raise money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society in its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health issue. During Relay for Life events, teams of people gather at schools, taking turns walking or running laps. The events are held overnight to represent the fact that cancer never sleeps. Through the survivors' lap and the luminaria ceremony, we honor the people who have faced cancer first hand, and we remember those who have been lost to this disease and celebrate those who have survived.

The Charlotte County Relay for Life theme is "Toon Out Cancer", thus cartoon names for teams participating. The Isle-ettes, representing the Isle Yacht Club, team name is "Happy Feet". We welcome all to visit us at the Happy Feet campsite from 3:00 pm Saturday, March 15th to 9:00 am Sunday, March 16th. Come and join us in a lap to stamp out cancer.

SPECIAL BREAKFAST

On September 16, 2008, IYC entertained 21 wounded Marines from Camp Lejeune ata special event called "Take a Soldier to Breakfast." Following the breakfast, the Marines were treated to boat rides, fishing trips and golf, courtesy of our members, members of the PGI Civic Association boating groups, and St. Andrews South Golf Club. The Marines were given IYC hats and pins and invited to the club any time if they show their pin.

It was a pleasure to entertain those who have given so much for our country.

Leukemia Cup Regatta

The Leukemia Cup Regatta

The Sixth Charlotte Harbor Leukemia Cup Regatta was held March 2010,on March 20 (small boats) and the weekend of March 27-28 (large boats). We are proud to announce that about $60,000 was contributed by the various participants and donors in 2009. Thanks to everyone!

This regatta takes place annually and was sponsored this year by the Isles Yacht Club. It is a fund-raiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is one of more than 40 annual regattas held across North America which raise a total of over $3 million each year. Our Charlotte Harbor regattas have raised nearly$400,000 in the past 5 years.

The 2011 regatta will be held March 19 for the Small Boat Races and March 26-27 for large boats.  Check back from time to time for news on the 2011 regatta.

Events in 2010 consisted of sailboat racing, both large and small, and a barbeque-beer bash.

Special thanks to Regatta chairman Chris Webb, co-chair Skip Mansfield, and all the volunteers who make these events such a success.
