Book ClubThe IYC Book Club, which meets the first Monday of the month, provides a venue for discussing books of interest to club members. Its October meeting consists of short presentations of members' favorite recent "reads". For other meetings we choose two books, a fiction and a non-fiction, for discussion. The selections are chosen by the members, usually several months in advance. We have also tried to include book selections of "books on tape" for visually handicapped. Every member is welcome to come to any meeting. All are invited to help choose and discuss selections.Lecture SeriesThe lecture series was begun to explore the interesting backgrounds, interests, and talents of Isles Yacht Club members and to bring members' attention to actions taking place in Punta Gorda and Charlotte County that may impact club members. Six or seven lectures are held each year. Club members are encouraged to help bring the most interesting and timely speakers to our club. Singles GroupThis group provides an opportunity for singles to join other singles in enjoying Club activities. It promote singles participation in club functions and reaches out to all, singles, particularly new ones. A special singles table is provided at most club functions. A Knotty Singles column in the LOG to keeps members abreast of activities. ToursMany IYC members enjoy organizing and/or participating in big ship cruises sponsored by the club or FCYC. Itineraries may include the Caribbean Islands or the Panama Canal. Land/air tour destinations include places like New York City, Washington DC, Paris or London. Local bus trips are also planned to special events such as the opera in Sarasota or the Miami boat show. Tour announcements are posted in the LOG and in email communiqués to club members.
