The Leukemia Cup, hosted by the Isles Yacht Club (IYC) and supported by numerous local businesses, organizations and individuals, is a month-long collection of recreational events in Charlotte County. The proceeds from these events benefit the important task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. The cornerstone of these events is The Leukemia Cup Regatta, which is supported by the national office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) and is implemented by 33 local Chapters of the LLS throughout the United States and Canada.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Seventy-five percent of the money raised goes towards research and patient services, which includes financial aid, support groups and educational programs.

Leukemia Cup Kick-off Party was held
Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Isles Yacht Club. Our featured speaker was sailing legend Gary Jobson, an Emmy award winning sailing commentator and lymphoma survivor. He spoke about various world-class sailing events and showed an exclusive video. Gary has been National Chairman of the Leukemia Cup Regatta since 1994. Event registration information also was made available to those attending.

Various events will take place around the Charlotte County region during March 2012, which has been proclaimed Leukemia Cup Month by the Punta Gorda City Council and Mayor Harvey Goldberg.
The Small Boat One Design Regatta is scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2012. A Tennis Tournament will be held Saturday, March 17, Sunday, March 18 and Saturday, March 24 2012. Model Sailboat Races are scheduled for Sunday, March 18, 2012. The Eighth Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25, 2012. Billiards Tournament Finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 24. A Leukemia Cup Barbeque Bash and charity auction will be held on Saturday, March 24.
Pedal and Play in Paradise, a series of bike tours hosted by Team Punta Gorda and Isles Yacht Club in support of LLS and Team Punta Gorda’s bike friendly initiatives, is scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 2012. Dates for model yacht sailing races and a golf outing are in development.
