Leukemia Cup Regatta 2012
is a bevy of various events that took place around Charlotte County in  March -April 2012. The Leukemia Cup, hosted by the Isles Yacht Club (IYC) and supported by numerous local businesses, organizations and individuals, is a month-long collection of recreational events in Charlotte County. The proceeds from these events benefit the important task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. The cornerstone of these events is The Leukemia Cup Regatta, which is supported by the national office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) and is implemented by 33 local Chapters of the LLS throughout the United States and Canada.

Team "Fancy Free" is the winner of the 2012 Leukemia Cup Regatta. "Fancy Free" won with a clean sweep winning First in Class, First Overall and First as Top Fundraiser.  Congratulations to "Fancy Free" and to all the particpants in this years race.

A note from the Cup Committee:

When I reflect back on the 2012 Leukemia Cup events and fundraising campaign, one phrase only keeps coming to mind...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! IYC, you should be proud! Collaboratively we raised $47,000 to fight Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma and other blood cancers. We are the friendliest yacht club but we’re also a caring and giving yacht club. You’re willingness to organize, volunteer, participate and donate make me proud to serve on your Bridge. But we didn’t do it alone; we were supported by our community from many avenues.

First, the City of Punta Gorda recognized our efforts by proclaiming March Leukemia Cup month. Corporate Sponsors supported by cash, gift certificates and auction items. TEAM Punta Gorda, along with IYC volunteers, organized a hugely attended multi faceted cycling event. Our reciprocal partners, St. Andrews South and Kingsway Country Club provided venues for Golf, fun and fundraising. Sailors, many youth, came from St Pete to Naples to compete on Charlotte Harbor with local sailors.

Big boats from our area and Cape Coral raced for a Cure on Charlotte Harbor in four classes enjoying perfect sailing conditions. The Tennis tournament, expanded to three days of competition, was once again wonderfully organized and very successful. The SunCoast Model Sailing Club joined our cause for the second year by racing model Soling’s at the County South Park. The Billiards players competed and contributed on two tables in the Bridge building for a cure. The new Have a Heart raffle was created, driven and supported by many and made a significant contribution. The BBQ Bash and silent auction were well attended leaving the bidding and dining tables bare yet filling the till. Another campaign feature this year was the ability to make online donations. This site created by LLS for our use was greatly supported and represented 20% of the total dollars raised. If you haven’t had time to share in our pride the online donation method is available until June 30th, 2012 by visiting http://sun.lcr.llsevent.org/IYC.

As we glance back we stare forward toward the 2013 campaign. What’s envisioned is a larger campaign team sharing smaller more enjoyable roles. We welcome more volunteers and more ideas.
We also offer something not available at the corner store …. a great sense of reward that helping others can only produce. For all of you that know that feeling,
THANK YOU!
