Special Events

Change of Watch

This formal event is held in early March to mark the beginning of the new Watch. It's a ceremonious evening when outgoing officers remove their flags from the staff as the new officers raise their flags and assume command. It's an exceptional occasion with limited seating, and a special dinner awaits all who attend.

Fleet Review

This nautical event is held in the spring each year to welcome the new Commodore when the new Watch begins. Boats assemble in the Peace River and proceed in assigned order to the Club basin where they pass a reviewing stand and exchange salutes. A dock party and dinner follow at the clubhouse.

Blessing of the Fleet

This is a Memorial Day observance of the passing of those who have laid down their lives for our principles and our country. We pay tribute to the memory of fellow members, family and friends who have died this past year. A live wreath is made by members on the morning of the event. Members may bring a flower to be included in the wreath. Ministers pronounce blessings.

Lighting of the Fleet

This spectacular event is held in December on the Thursday prior to the Christmas Ball that heralds the holiday season. Skippers sign up with the Fleet Captain and bring their boats to assigned dockage at the Club to decorate them with lights and whatever else they wish. At dark, a countdown is led by Fleet Captain so all boats are lit simultaneously. Members visit the boats and then dinner is served throughout the Club.

Captain and Crew Dinners

These informal get-togethers are held on the second Thursday of each month. Dinner topics are boating related. Time is provided for various boating-related announcements. Any boaters who have experienced nautical mishaps that were reported to the "Admiral" are awarded the Royal Order of the Busted Prop – all in good fun. These events are a great way for members to expand their social circles, gain knowledge about boating and share information and skills.

Trivia Night

This is a monthly event at which members form teams of up to eight players to test their trivia skills in a hotly contested competition, which follows dinner. Members invite club friends to form a team and make dinner reservations together at one table. Other members, when placing their dinner reservations, can ask to be placed at a trivia table where they are heartily welcomed.

Parties and Dances

Isles Yacht Club members know how to have a good time. With at least one special event a month during high season, there are many opportunities to dress up, dress down or dress crazy in the interest of enjoying friends and having fun. Here are some of the recurring events that happen during the year.

Club Birthday Party

Held the first Saturday in September after the annual shutdown ends, this informal dinner party provides a time of reflection and opportunity to add another candle on the Club birthday cake. It also marks the beginning of the busy fall and winter season.

Commodore's Ball

This formal dinner dance honors the current Commodore. All attending members pass a reviewing line of the current Flag Officers to extend words of encouragement and commendation. The event may take place on one or two evenings. If two, all Flag Officers attend both nights and the two nights are identical – same band, same special menu and same Flag Officers.

Christmas Ball

This semi-formal event ushers in the holiday season and rounds out "Lighting of the Fleet." (See Special Events under Marine.) On the Saturday evening immediately following Lighting of the Fleet, decorated boats, belonging to members, are requested to remain tied up in the yacht basin while the ball is celebrated in commemoration of the holiday season. Members attending enjoy a special dinner.

Egg Nog Party

This Christmas Eve daytime event provides the Commodore an opportunity to greet Club families and wish them a happy holiday. Egg nog and a light repast are enjoyed by all who attend.

New Year's Celebration

This festive celebration provides an opportunity to say good-bye to the old year and joyfully welcome in the New Year.
